IMPORTANT UPCOMING DATES:

The next meeting in the One Burke Process to set common goals and action plans for the future will take place Tuesday August 15th from 6:30-9:00pm at the Burke Town School in the Old Town Hall. This will be a dynamic, fun, and interactive community meeting to review ideas together, share your take on the best ideas for the future, and vote on top priorities for action.

We want to make sure everyone’s ideas are included. If you had additional ideas to share, or know of others who would like to submit their action ideas, complete or pass along the One Burke Community Survey linked here by August 4th:  http://survey.constantcontact.com/survey/a07eedymcrkj59l2u6g/start

We hope you will join us August 15th to discuss the ideas and choose priorities that you think will have the greatest long-term benefit to BurkeIf  you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us: 802-223-6091info@vtrural.org, and/or visit the Community Visit section of our website: http://vtrural.org/programs/community-visits. Odyssey of the Mind
VT State Competition
March 18th 2017

Twelve creative minds from 5th and 6th grade competed in the VT State Odyssey of the Mind Competition yesterday. Their collaboration, dedication, respectful nature, and persistence all shined through yesterday at competition.

The Odd-a-bot team created a simple, yet functional robot, that played an important role is a humorous retro-holiday themed performance. Of note from the judges was their well developed character's. This problem was defined by the head judge as the most difficult technical problem he has seen in his 20 years with Odyssey. In fact, only 3 teams in the state of VT even attempted this problem!
Burke's Odd-a-bot team placed 1st in their division!

The Superhero Cliffhanger team created a comical performance in which creativity was saved by a "secret superhero" from a mad doctor nemesis character. This was a popular theatrical problem. This team's overall placement will be released this week.

A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who donated materials (including PTO and Burklyn Arts), teacher's who supervised teams, and to 5/6 teachers for allowing students to miss class to add their final touches on Thursday. You help make this a successful experience for our students. ~Ms. Scanlon, 2017 Odyssey of the Mind Coach.

Burke Town School- OUTDOOR CLUB- Zealand Hut and CT River Canoe Trip photos:  On November 5th and 6th, the Burke middle school students Outdoor Club spent the weekend at Zealand Hut, partnering with the AMC.  On October 4th & 5th, the Outdoor Club spent the weekend canoeing the CT River and Island Pond. A partnership between the Burke Conservation Commission, NorthWoods Stewardship Center and the BTS Outdoor Club allowed students to learn canoeing and camping skills. It was great to be on the river during this beautiful time in Vermont! Everyone had fun and was glad to be outside, even though it was rainy!  Outdoor Club website
