LATEST IMPORTANT SCHOOL NEWS:

Important KEAP Family Handbook 2018-2019 Correction/Update
Sept. 15, 2018

KEAP is FREE to all district K-8 students!

Afterschool is a unique time of day in which students can develop new interests, new friendships, and new skills. We want ALL youth to take part!

KEAP is proud to be funded in large part by a 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant. In addition, KEAP receives support from the local school budgets, district Title I Consolidated Federal Program dollars, and family contributions.

If you are able to make a financial contribution to the program, please make a note on your session Sign Up form. Financial support from our families helps to demonstrate the sustainability of our program for the years to come!

You will receive a reminder of any noted amount during the first half of the session. Family contributions can be mailed to PO Box 107, Lyndonville, VT 05851. Checks can be made out to “Kingdom East Afterschool Programs.” Even $1 a day makes a big difference!

We want to see YOU at Afterschool this year!

Please welcome our NEWEST staff to Burke Town School!

Hello,my name is Brittany Newland. I'm very excited to be the new preschool instructional assistant at Burke Town School. I attended Burke as a student where I found my love for teaching. I continued to foster that passion by attending Lyndon State College and earned a degree in early childhood education. I have had experience working with children as a preschool teacher at Red Door Children's Center. I believe the children learn best through play and should be provided with many opportunities to explore. When I'm not working I enjoy traveling and going to the ocean. I look forward to meeting fellow teachers and my students. I can't wait for the school year to begin!

My name is Niki Rapkowicz. I recently located to VT from MA and I am the new administrative assistant at the Burke Town School. I am excited to start this new journey, and especially excited to get to know the school community.  I am currently residing in Orleans with my husband, Jeremy and our dog, Bella. The three of us all enjoy being outside, hiking, and camping. Jeremy and I additionally are avid Boston sports fans! I spent the past six years working for a behavioral health agency where I took pride in helping to support local families who have a child with behavioral, emotional, or mental health needs. I was privileged to work with the management staff for program development, but most importantly work 1-on-1 with some of these youths in a community setting. It was a job that was challenging but very rewarding! What drew me to VT is the wonderful experience I had completing my undergrad at St. Michael’s College. Between the school setting and playing soccer all four years, it was my first real feeling of a community. More recently, anytime I have visited friends in the NEK, I have also felt that same community feeling. I am proud to call it my new home.  In a professional setting, I am approachable, kind and caring. I love to use humor and joke around with others as a way to connect. I am a hard worker and I look forward to dedicating myself to my new position. Feel free to approach me and introduce yourself anytime!

My name is Kelsey Trepanier and I am so excited to teach 3rd and 4th grade math and science and learn at the Burke Town School. I live in Burke with my husband, our dog, one fish, and six happy hens. At home I love to read a good book or try out new baking recipes. I also enjoy spending time pulling weeds in the garden or walking through the woods. I love learning and teaching through projects, art, and the wonderful outdoors. As a learning community, we will be bold in exploring our curiosities and our world. I look forward to each of the wonderful questions and ideas our experiences this year will bring!

My name is Heather Skrabely and I am excited to join the BTS team as the 6th, 7th and 8th grade science teacher and 6th grade homeroom.!  I moved to the Northeast Kingdom three years ago to begin my teaching career and fell in love with all this area offers. Prior to moving to Vermont, I received my B.S. in Environmental Science from Westfield State University and attended the University of Massachusetts where I received a Master’s in Education.  In my free time, I enjoy cooking, hiking, and spending time outdoors with my rescue dog, Bo. I look forward to being part of the Burke team and guiding students as they explore the world around them!

Burke Town School- OUTDOOR CLUB- Zealand Hut and CT River Canoe Trip photos:  On November 5th and 6th, the Burke middle school students Outdoor Club spent the weekend at Zealand Hut, partnering with the AMC.  On October 4th & 5th, the Outdoor Club spent the weekend canoeing the CT River and Island Pond. A partnership between the Burke Conservation Commission, NorthWoods Stewardship Center and the BTS Outdoor Club allowed students to learn canoeing and camping skills. It was great to be on the river during this beautiful time in Vermont! Everyone had fun and was glad to be outside, even though it was rainy!  Outdoor Club website
